Black Earth Rising is a long form thriller which, through the prism of a black Anglo-American family, examines the West’s relationship with contemporary Africa by exploring issues of justice, guilt, and self-determination.。鼓楼外一位老木匠易大船的大徒弟于钟声和其孙女易小船偷偷恋爱了，吃醋的二徒弟尹东义给于钟声使坏，在邻居家房梁上做了手脚。于钟声上当以致屋里的孩子死亡，锒铛入狱。狱外，心里还爱着于钟声的易小船迫于种种无奈嫁给了尹东义，而狱中的于钟声得知此消息悲愤交加，誓言报仇……。
